A free game earns nothing at install, so revenue has to come from ads or purchases. Interstitials between levels, rewarded videos for extra lives and banner strips are all standard monetisation, and the number usually rises as a game ages and its player base stops growing. Recognising this helps set expectations: a game with no purchase option and constant ad breaks is unlikely to get quieter over time.

If the game sells an ad-removal purchase, that is the cleanest fix and it supports the developer. Beyond that, you can limit ad tracking at the system level — App Tracking Transparency on iOS, and resetting or deleting the advertising ID on Android — which makes ads less targeted, though not fewer. Turning off the game notifications separately stops the second wave of interruptions that arrives when you are not even playing.

Some categories simply carry fewer interruptions: paid premium games, offline puzzle collections and instant browser games generally do not stack an interstitial between every round. Browser games in particular load a page and let you play, with no install, no account and no rewarded-video economy attached to progress. If ads are ruining a genre you like, look for the same genre in a format that does not depend on them.
