Chess is the timeless game of strategy between two armies. You win by checkmating the enemy king — trapping it so it cannot escape capture. Strong play balances three phases: a sound opening, a tactical middlegame, and a precise endgame.

1. In the opening, control the centre, develop knights and bishops quickly, and castle early to protect your king.
2. Don't move the same piece twice in the opening or bring your queen out too early — it just gets chased.
3. Before every move, check what your opponent threatens — most blunders are missed one-move captures or checks.
